Ti bn thơ ti, kiếm cht tiền                                           I sell my work of poetry for food

Gữi về qu hương để gip em                                       Sending home to Saigon

Gi mt Cali, xin người nhận                                       As I am sending a breeze from California,

Nắng chy Si Gn, nm da em                                   Hoping to soothe her unbearable tropical heat

 

Hn Mặc Tử xưa cũng bn thơ                                    Poet Hn Mặc Tử once tried to sell his poems

Khng ai mua, nn người gạ bn trăng                        No one bought, so he peddled the moon

Đất khch, ti viết thơ Anh ngữ                                    In my adopted country, I compose my poems in English

Mặc ai khng hiểu, hiểu chị Hằng                                Hope the moonlight understood my poetry

 

Em ơi đoạn trường u l thế                                                   My dear Miss Saigon, I am being present to your sorrowful heart

Ti gi niềm đau trong thơ                                         Its pain is wrapped inside each poetic note

Thơ ti chỉ c em yu đọc                                              I am pleased if only you appreciate my poetic Muse

Si Gn thất thủ, ta như bỗng dại khờ                           She witnessed our insanity when Saigon fell

 

Đy cht qu từ vi ba cuốn sch                                   A few copies I sold to send you a gift

Ti bn cho kẻ qu thơ ti:                                            The ones who are touched by my soul:

Người chiến binh Hoa Kỳ sau cuộc chiến                      The American Vietnam veterans

Để lại Việt Nam mảnh trăng đi...                                 Who left their hearts in Saigon

                                                                                     As the moonlight embraced the two broken pieces of the land...
